A highly refractory material used mostly in the formation of heavy-duty kiln shelves and furniture. Silicon Carbide is also used in the formation of 'foaming' and 'blister glazes' due to the carbon dioxide gas that is released during firing. Also used in small amounts to simulate reduction effects in oxidation firing because of the carbon present in the material. 400 grit.
